PD Calenda

The Child & Youth Law Section aims to increase awareness in the Calgary and South Alberta legal community of the rights of children and youth, and the impact of legal issues and challenges on their lives.

The Section brings together expertise from across different legal practice areas, coordinates professional development activities, provides strategic input, and responds to law, policy and legal research developments on matters affecting our diverse populations of children and youth.  The Section strives to improve the profession’s capacity to serve the needs of children by way of providing continuing professional development that explores cultural competencies and practical and ethical issues in practice.

Legislation explored, particularly from a child-centred perspective, includes but is not limited to:

  • the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act,
  • An Act Respecting First Nation, Indigenous, and Metis children, Youth, and Families,
  • the Divorce Act,
  • the Family Law Act.

Join this Section  and participate in the experience and practice of children’s law and child welfare.
