Drug Treatment Court

  • July 27, 2017

Funding for the Calgary Drug Treatment Court (CDTC) was set to expire on December 31, 2013. The CDTC formally opened in 2007 with funding from the Safe Communities Initiative of the Government of Alberta. The charitable organization aligns its resources so as not to reproduce existing expertise and to reduce redundancies and limit costs. Similar to other drug treatment courts in Canada, the CDTC is intended to provide an alternative approach to working with non-violent offenders charged with offences that are directly or indirectly related to drug addiction. Eligible individuals are offered an intensive and judicially supervised addiction recovery program. This drug treatment court program is the only pre-sentence justice program that provides a holistic approach integrating Justice, Law Enforcement, Health Services, Housing, Employment, Treatment and Rehabilitation services.
