RE: Request for Circulation of Notice Regarding the Position of Chair of the Independent Advisory Panel
Thank you for your letter of May 12, 2026, regarding the appointment of a chair to the independent advisory panel. The Canadian Bar Association – Alberta Branch (“CBA”) is the largest association of legal professionals in the province, representing over 5,600 lawyers, law students, legal academics, and judges.
Given that Acting Chief Justice of Alberta Pentelechuk has expressed reservations about this selection process and refrained from circulating the letter, the CBA must also respectfully decline the committee’s request. The Chief Justices are the proper entities to circulate this notice, and it would be inappropriate for the CBA to circumvent their decision.
