From the PD Manager | April 8, 2024

CBA Alberta has rolled out a new PD series called the Alberta Lawyer Insight Series (ALIS). ALIS is an online PD series so you’ll be able to participate no matter where you are in Alberta. You’ll also be able to join us whether you’re working from home or at the office. All you have to do is register and you’ll receive a Zoom link.

ALIS includes six annual PD webinars. These webinars are all free for CBA members – just one of the many benefits of CBA membership.

ALIS webinar topics range from discussions with Alberta’s Chief Justices and Alberta’s Minister of Justice, to PD programming about wellness, skills-development and leadership-development.

Our next ALIS webinar will take place during Mental Health Week, which is observed annually during the first full week of May. This year we hope to see you on May 7 for “Lawyering Well: How to Survive and Thrive in Law by Working Smarter Not Harder” being presented by lawyer and executive coach Amy Binder. A successful career in law shouldn’t come at the expense of your well-being. You can choose to have both. Join us on May 7 to learn how you can thrive in law by making a few small changes to the way you work.

And then on May 29, we are pleased to welcome Professor Eric Adams from the University of Alberta Law School. Professor Adams is a frequent media commentator whose editorials about present-day constitutional issues appear in newspapers across the country. He will be joining us on May 29 to share his expert thoughts about Constitutional Law in Divided Times. Don’t pass up on this opportunity to learn about the current constitutional law landscape in Alberta, including insights about rights, federalism, provincial sovereignty and the notwithstanding clause.

Check out our brand-new ALIS webpage for more information about both of these upcoming ALIS webinars. You’ll also find links to video-on-demand recordings of previous ALIS webinars that you may have missed, including:

I am already starting to plan ALIS webinars for 2024-25 so stay tuned. If you have ideas for PD programming about wellness, skills development or leadership development, please send me an email. I would love to hear from you.
